Save a section and reuse it

Save an approved section once and insert it on any page: a call to action, a pricing block, a header. At the end your section sits in the element picker, ready for you or for every editor. The example builds a campus tour call to action, saves it as a global template and inserts it again.

Build the section

  1. Click + in the content area and pick Section from the Layout tab.
  2. Open the section's More menu and choose Settings.
  3. Under HTML classes, pick Align text center.
  4. Open the Style panel and pick a purple Background and a white Font color.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click + on the section and pick Button. Set Title to "Book a tour", Link to /tours and Type to Light, then click Save.
  7. Click + on the section again and pick Text. It lands above the button.
  8. Type "Ready to visit?", set it to Heading 2, add one line and set its Font color to white.

Save it as a template

  1. Hover the section's own control bar, the outermost one, and click More.
  2. Click Save as template. The Save as Template dialog opens.
  3. Type a Template name, for example "Campus tour call to action".
  4. Tick Global template so every editor gets it. Leave it unticked to keep it private.
  5. Click Save.

Want the whole page as one template? Use Save as template in the More menu of the DXPR Builder toolbar.

Insert it on a page

  1. Click + on the DXPR Builder toolbar and open the Saved templates tab.
  2. Find your template under Private Templates or Global Templates.
  3. Click the template. A copy lands on the page.
  4. Click Save.

What you see

The call to action appears on the page with its purple background, heading and button. The inserted section is a copy: editing it does not change the template, and changing the template does not change sections inserted earlier.

In the Saved templates tab, the template shows its name and the picture you added under Image (optional). Without a picture it shows the icon of its element type.

Private and global

Private Global
Shown in the picker to you every editor, unless their user profile limits global templates
Deleted from the picker by you you, the author
Best for drafts and your own workflows brand blocks everyone should reuse

An administrator can edit or delete any user template. They live under DXPR Studio > DXPR Builder > User Templates (/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/user_templates). See User templates (admin).

If you don't see your template

  • The template holds only a button, not the section. You used the More menu of an element inside the section. Hover the section's outermost control bar and save from its More menu.
  • Saving shows "A template with the name ... already exists". Template names are unique on the site. Choose another Template name.
  • A colleague's template is not in the picker. It is private, and only global templates are shared. Ask them to save it again with Global template ticked.
  • A global template is missing for one editor. Their user profile lists the global templates they may use. Unless its Check/Uncheck all Global user templates box is ticked, new ones are not added automatically. An administrator ticks the template, or that box, under Global user templates at /admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/profile.
