Add a Drupal block to your page

Place a contact form, a menu or a reusable content block right inside your layout. You keep managing the block in Drupal, and every page that shows it stays up to date. Use this page for one fixed piece of content; for a list that grows by itself, use Drupal Views.

Before you start

  • The Block Content module is enabled. Without it the Drupal Blocks tab does not appear.
  • The block exists: for example a webform, a menu or a content block under Content > Blocks (/admin/content/block).

Set up

  1. Click + where the block should go and open the Drupal Blocks tab of the element picker.
  2. Pick a category under Filter by category, or type part of the block name in Search.
  3. Click the block. Its settings dialog opens.
  4. Set the block's own options, if it has any.
  5. Tick Show title to show the block's admin name as a heading above it.
  6. Click Save in the dialog, then Save on the toolbar.

What you see

The block appears in the layout as it looks on the live site. In the editor it is a preview: you change its content where the block is managed, not on the page.

Each entry in the list reads "Category: Block name". Typical categories are Content block, Forms (search form, user login), Menus, System (site branding, breadcrumbs) and Webform.

The block is rendered with the page, not copied into it, so edits to a menu or a content block appear on every page that uses it. Visibility rules from Block layout do not apply: the block shows wherever you place it.

Settings

Setting What it does Default
Show title Shows the block's admin name as a heading; content blocks ignore it off
Block options The block's own settings, such as the levels of a menu block as the block defines them

To limit which blocks your editors can pick, use the Blocks list of a user profile.

If you don't see the block

  • The Drupal Blocks tab is missing. The Block Content module is off, and DXPR Builder lists blocks only when it is on. Enable Block Content under Extend (/admin/modules).
  • A new block is not in the list. Your user profile does not offer it: new blocks are not ticked automatically. Tick it under Blocks in the profile at /admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/profile.
  • The page title or a Views block is not in the list. DXPR Builder leaves out the page title and main content blocks. Views blocks live in the Drupal Views tab.
  • A block that needs a page context is missing. Some blocks need the current content item, which the picker cannot supply, so DXPR Builder hides them. Place such blocks with Block layout (/admin/structure/block) instead.
  • The block is empty for visitors. Visitors have no access to it, for example a form only logged-in users may see. Check the block's own access settings.
