Start a new site with DXPR CMS
DXPR CMS is a Drupal distribution with DXPR Builder, DXPR Theme, content types, demo pages and AI modules already set up. Install it when you start a new site. For a site you already run, install DXPR Builder on its own instead. At the end you log in to a working site whose home page you edit in the builder.
Before you start
- PHP 8.3 or later, which Drupal 11 needs, plus Composer, Git and a database. The project includes a DDEV configuration; any Drupal 11 hosting works too.
- Your product key from app.dxpr.com/getting-started. The installer calls it the DXPR API Key.
What is included
- DXPR Builder, with the Drag and Drop Block block type
- DXPR Theme, a Bootstrap 5 theme with settings for colours, fonts, header and layout
- The Basic page, Blog post and Landing Page content types, all set to the builder
- Demo pages: Home, Page and Contact Us
- The AI module and the DXPR AI Provider, for AI text, pages and images
During installation you can pick extra add-ons. They are Case Studies, Events, Forms, Google Analytics, News, SEO Tools and Multilingual.
Download DXPR CMS
-
Clone the project:
bash git clone https://github.com/dxpr/dxpr_cms.git my-site cd my-site -
Download Drupal core and the modules:
bash composer install
With DDEV, run ddev start first and put ddev before each composer
and drush command.
Install in the browser
- Open the site in your browser. The DXPR CMS installer starts on its own.
- Answer its questions, such as which optional add-ons to install.
- On Activate AI Features, paste your product key into DXPR API Key, or click Skip this step.
Install from the command line
Instead of the browser, you can install with Drush. Replace the database details and the key with your own:
drush site:install dxpr_cms_installer \
--db-url=mysql://user:pass@localhost/dbname \
dxpr_cms_installer_keys.dxpr_key='YOUR_PRODUCT_KEY' -y
To add optional add-ons, append
"installer_recipes_form.add_ons=Events|News", or use * for all of
them. Drush prints the administrator's login details when it finishes.
What you see
The installer ends on the home page, /home. Log in as the
administrator and the builder controls appear on its content. The
Home, Page and Contact Us pages are ordinary content: edit,
unpublish or delete them under Content.

| DXPR CMS | DXPR Builder on its own | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A new site | A Drupal site you already run |
| Theme | DXPR Theme | Any theme |
| Demo pages | Home, Page and Contact Us | None |
| Content types | Set to the builder | You set the formatter yourself |
If you don't see the builder
- The home page shows no builder controls. You are not logged in, or your role lacks Edit with DXPR Builder. DXPR CMS grants it to the content administrator, site builder and content editor roles; assign one at People.
- The AI prompt is greyed out and says no AI provider is configured. You skipped the key during installation. Add it under License at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/settingsand under DXPR API Key at/admin/config/ai/providers/dxpr.
What's next?
- Build your first page: add sections, rows and elements.
- Installing the demo content: other ways to try the builder with ready-made pages.
- User profiles: decide what each role sees in the builder.
