FAQ
How do I add DXPR Builder to an existing content type?
Use a long text field the content type already has, such as Body, or add one. Then set that field's Format to DXPR Builder under Manage display. No submodule is needed; the core DXPR Builder module handles the rendering. Use DXPR Builder on your content types has the steps.
Why do the editing controls not appear when I hover over the content area?
Check these in order:
- You are on the saved page, not on the edit form. DXPR Builder works on the page itself.
- Your role has the Edit with DXPR Builder permission (at
/admin/people/permissions) and may edit that content. - Your account has a valid email address. The builder does not load for accounts without one.
- On the free tier, only one account can edit. More editors need a paid subscription.
- If your user profile has Start editor when page loads switched off, click the eye icon on the builder toolbar first.
What does the product key control?
The product key ties your site to your DXPR account and determines your licence
count (how many users can edit) and content item limit. Enter it at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/settings. Get a key at
dxpr.com/getting-started.
How do I store my product key securely?
Use the Key module. Create a key at /admin/config/system/keys with the
File or Environment provider. Then, in the License section of
the DXPR Builder settings, choose Key module as the Storage method
and pick that key. A key with the Configuration provider still ends up
in configuration exports.
Is DXPR Builder open source?
The Drupal module is GPL-licensed, like all code on drupal.org. Only the editor's scripts load from the DXPR CDN, while someone edits. Your pages are saved as standard Bootstrap 5 HTML in your own database, and visitors never load anything from DXPR servers.
What if I cancel my subscription?
Your site keeps working and visitors still see every published page. The free tier allows one editor and 100 content items. Pages over that limit stay live, but the visual editor no longer loads on them. See Licensing overview.
Does DXPR Builder require Bootstrap?
DXPR Builder generates Bootstrap 5 HTML. If your theme already loads
Bootstrap 5, set Sideload Bootstrap files to None (theme provides
Bootstrap) at /admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/settings. If it does
not, choose Bootstrap 5 and DXPR Builder loads it for you.
Which AI features are available?
Three AI features are available (each toggleable independently):
- Text editing assistant: an AI writing tool in the inline CKEditor toolbar
- Page creation assistant: generates full page layouts from a text description
- Image generation: creates images from text prompts
All three require the AI module and the DXPR AI Provider. See the AI features guide.
How do I set up AI?
- Install
drupal/aianddrupal/ai_provider_dxpr - Enable both modules with
drush en ai ai_provider_dxpr - Configure the provider at
/admin/config/ai/providers/dxpr - Toggle features at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/ai_settings
How do AI credits work?
All AI operations (text editing, page creation, image
generation) consume credits
from your DXPR subscription. Check your balance at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/ai_settings or top up at
dxpr.com/user/me/subscription/credits.
Does DXPR Builder AI work with existing content?
Yes. Edit with AI works on elements of pages you built earlier, and the builder turns plain Bootstrap 5 HTML into editable elements. You do not need to rebuild your pages first.
Can I revert AI-generated changes?
Yes. AI changes are steps in the undo history, like any other edit; see Undo and redo your changes. Each save also creates a Drupal revision on content types that keep revisions. The Diff module shows what changed between revisions.
Can I turn off AI features?
Yes. At /admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/ai_settings, untick Enable
text editing assistant, Enable page creation assistant and Enable
image generation under AI Features. Without the AI module, the
builder shows no AI features at all. Everything else works as before.
What is the difference between page templates and user templates?
Page templates are full-page layouts managed by administrators at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/page_template. Editors pick one with
Choose a template on an empty page.
User templates are reusable sections saved by editors from inside the
editor. They can be private (visible only to the creator) or global (visible to
all users), and they appear on the Saved templates tab of the element
picker. Global templates are managed at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/user_templates.
See the templates guide.
How do user profiles work?
User profiles let you control which elements, blocks, views, templates, icon
sets, and text editor buttons each role sees. Create profiles at
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/profile, assign them to roles, and configure
the available features. When a user matches multiple profiles, the one with the
lowest weight wins. See the user profiles guide.
Why are newly created blocks/views/templates not showing in the element picker?
A user profile lists the blocks, views, page templates and global user
templates it allows. When a list's check-all box, such as Check/Uncheck
all Blocks, is ticked, new items appear on their own. When it is not, new items stay hidden:
edit the profile at /admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/profile and tick
them in the relevant section.
Can I use DXPR Builder with Drupal's Layout Builder?
DXPR Builder operates on individual fields (typically the body field), not on Drupal's Layout Builder. They serve different purposes: Layout Builder manages the overall page layout (regions and blocks), while DXPR Builder provides rich content editing within a field. You can use both on the same site, and even on the same page: DXPR CMS places its builder field inside a Layout Builder layout.
How do I create a full-width section?
- Add a Section element from the Layout tab
- Open More on the section and choose Settings
- Switch on Full width in the General panel and click Save
- Add a Row inside the section, then your content inside the row
Full width lets the rows fill the section from edge to edge. The section itself reaches the window edges only when the theme region around the field is full width as well. See Full-width layouts.
What icon sets are available?
DXPR Builder ships with 14 icon sets. They are Bootstrap Icons, ET Line
Icons, Font Awesome (v4 compat, Brands, Regular, Solid), Glyphicon
Halflings and Pixeden Line Icons. Six more are Phosphor Icons variants:
Regular, Bold, Duotone, Fill, Light and Thin. Control which sets are
available per user profile at /admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/profile.
How do I update DXPR Builder?
composer update drupal/dxpr_builder --with-dependencies
drush updatedb
drush cr
Always run drush updatedb after updating; DXPR Builder includes database
update hooks that migrate settings between versions. Update DXPR
Builder covers backups and roll back.
