Undo and redo your changes

Made a change you do not want? You can step back through your edits with a shortcut, step forward again, or jump to any earlier state in the Editing History panel. The video adds a heading and a button, undoes the button in two steps and brings it back.

Undo a change

  1. Click in your content so the builder has the keyboard focus.
  2. Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac). The last recorded action is undone.
  3. Press it again to step further back.

Each action is one step: adding, moving or deleting an element, editing its content, changing its settings, and changes made with AI. Adding an element and saving its settings are two steps. In the video, the first undo clears the button's settings and leaves an empty placeholder. The second removes the button.

Redo a change

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Z (Cmd+Shift+Z on a Mac). On Windows, Ctrl+Y works too.
  2. Press it again for the next step.

Redo only works after an undo. A new change after an undo clears the steps you could redo.

Jump back with the history panel

  1. Click Show history, the calendar icon on the DXPR toolbar.
  2. In the Editing History panel, click a state. The page shows it.
  3. Click Restore to keep it.
  4. Click Save on the toolbar to store the page.

The panel also opens from More on the toolbar, or with Ctrl+Shift+H (Cmd+Shift+H on a Mac). The arrow buttons at the bottom of the panel undo and redo one action at a time.

What you see

The Editing History panel lists every recorded action with its time, newest at the top. A check mark shows the state the page shows now. If you close the panel with its X instead of Restore, the page returns to the state it had when you opened the panel.

Undo and redo change the page in the editor only. Visitors see the change after you click Save.

How long history lasts

Each DXPR Builder field keeps its own history, stored in this browser for your user account. It survives a page reload and a save. Another browser or computer starts with an empty history. When the browser's storage fills up, the oldest steps are dropped first.

If you don't see the change undone

  • Nothing happens when you press Ctrl+Z. The keyboard focus is outside your content, for example on the admin toolbar. Click inside the content, then press the shortcut again.
  • Undo changed the wrong part of the page. The page has more than one DXPR Builder field, such as the body and a block, each with its own history. Click inside the field you want, then undo.
  • The history panel is empty. You are in another browser, or the site data in this browser was cleared. Your saved page is not affected. To go back further, open the page's Revisions tab.
  • An error says the history state failed to save. The page is too large for the browser's storage, so undo stops recording. Save often, and use the page's Revisions tab to return to an earlier saved version.
