Help search engines find your pages
You give each page a clear heading outline, described images, fast loading and good metadata, so search engines understand and rank it. DXPR Builder stores the page as HTML in the body field, so Drupal's SEO modules work with it unchanged. This page covers what you set in the builder and what you set with those modules.
Build a heading outline
Layout elements (sections, rows and columns) are plain div
elements. Search engines read the structure of a builder page from
its headings.
| Level | Use |
|---|---|
| Heading 1 | Page title, once per page; most themes print it |
| Heading 2 | Major sections |
| Heading 3 | Subsections within a Heading 2 |
| Heading 4 to 6 | Deeper subsections |
- Click into a Text element.
- Pick the level from the heading list in the toolbar.
- Keep the levels in order; do not jump from Heading 2 to Heading 4.
On DXPR CMS you can hide the theme's title on one page: on its edit form, open DXPR Theme Settings, tick Page Title under DXPR Hide Regions and click Save. A builder Heading 1 is then the page's one Heading 1.
A Jumbotron Title is always a Heading 1, so a Jumbotron adds a second one next to your theme's page title. A Card Title is always a Heading 5.
Describe every image
- Point at the image and click More > Settings.
- Open the SEO panel and type a short description in Alt attribute, ideally under 125 characters.
- Click Save in the dialog, then Save on the container bar.
An empty Alt attribute writes no alt at all. For a picture
that adds no information, use a section Background image
instead.
Add metadata with Drupal modules
These modules work on the node, so they cover builder pages without extra configuration:
- Metatag: page titles, descriptions and Open Graph tags
- Pathauto: readable URL paths
- Simple XML Sitemap or XML Sitemap: builder pages in your sitemap
- Schema.org Metatag: structured data
Keep pages fast
Search engines factor page speed into rankings.
- In an Image element, pick the image size Optimize for fast loading. It scales the image to 1024 pixels wide and saves it as WebP.
- Every image on a builder page loads with the page; the Image element does not lazy-load. Keep large images to the ones the page needs.
- Give each Video element an Image. The player then loads only when a visitor clicks.
- Keep Drupal's page caching on.
See Performance for what each page loads.
Write useful links
- Use descriptive link text ("Read our pricing guide" rather than "Click here").
- Open external links in a new tab only when visitors need the page they came from.
- Use relative URLs for internal links, such as
/about, so links keep working on staging and production. - Check for broken links regularly.
What you see
A page audit, such as the SEO and Performance reports in the
browser's Lighthouse panel, finds one Heading 1, no images without
alt text, and a meta description. The page source shows your
headings as h2 and h3 in order.
If you don't see a clean audit
- The audit reports images without alt text. An Image element's Alt attribute is empty. Fill it in under SEO.
- The audit reports no meta description. Drupal core adds none. Install Metatag and set a description for the content type or the page.
- The audit reports large images. The images use Original image (No resizing). Pick Optimize for fast loading in each Image element.
