See your page as visitors do

Preview hides every control bar and plus button, so you see the page the way your visitors will. Use it to check a layout before you save: it shows your unsaved changes too. The video previews a finished section, switches back to editing, saves, then turns Preview on with the keyboard.

Switch to preview and back

  1. Click the eye icon on the DXPR toolbar and choose Preview from the view menu.
  2. Check the page: the control bars and plus buttons are hidden, as they are for visitors.
  3. Open the view menu again and choose Edit to keep working. Your unsaved changes are kept.
  4. Click Save to store the page.

You can also press Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on a Mac) to switch Preview on and off.

What you see

  • No editing aids. Control bars, hover outlines, plus buttons and the outline of the selected element are gone.
  • A red eye on the toolbar. While Preview is on, the eye icon on the DXPR toolbar shows crossed out in red. The toolbar stays, so you can switch back at any time.
  • No text editing. Clicking a text does not open the text editor until you choose Edit again.

The builder remembers your choice in this browser. If you leave a page in Preview, the next page you edit opens in Preview too.

Check narrow screens

Switch to Preview and make your browser window narrower. New rows place their columns side by side from tablet width up and stack them on phones. Check that each stacked column still reads well. Responsive design shows how to change this per screen size.

Preview or published page

Preview shows what is in the editor right now, saved or not. Visitors see the last saved version, and only once the page is published. To see the page exactly as a visitor does, open it in a private browser window.

If you don't see the preview

  • The page opens without any control bars. You left the last page in Preview, and the builder kept that choice. Open the view menu and choose Edit.
  • The shortcut does nothing. Shortcuts pause while your cursor is in a text you are editing. Click outside the text, then press Ctrl+Shift+P again.
  • Visitors do not see what Preview shows. Preview includes unsaved changes, and visitors only see a published page. Click Save, then publish the page as described in Save and publish your page.
