Pick images with Entity Browser
Does your site already use the Entity Browser module? Then you can let DXPR Builder open the same browser for every image field, so editors see one picker everywhere. On a new site, use the Media library instead: the settings page calls Entity Browser the legacy option.
Before you start
- The Entity Browser module is enabled.
- An entity browser for images exists. You find it
at Entity browsers
(
/admin/config/content/entity_browser). - That browser's Display plugin is Modal.
- Editors have that browser's permission, named "Access browser name pages".
DXPR Builder ships a ready-made browser in the
hidden DXPR Builder Media submodule: "DXPR
Builder Image Browser". Hidden modules do not show
under Extend; a developer enables it with
drush en dxpr_builder_media.
Set up
- Go to DXPR Studio > DXPR Builder >
General Settings
(
/admin/dxpr_studio/dxpr_builder/settings). - Open the Media section.
- Under Browser type, choose the machine name of
your browser, for example
dxpr_builder_media_modal. - Click Save settings.
- Edit a page, add an Image element and click Select Image.
What you see
Your entity browser opens in the Media browser dialog. It has the tabs and buttons you gave it. The DXPR Builder Image Browser has two tabs: Media Library to pick an existing image with Select image, and Upload new image to add one with Save image.
| Media Library | Entity Browser | |
|---|---|---|
| Part of Drupal core | yes | no, contributed module |
| Shown under Browser type as | Media Library | the browser's machine name |
| Select video on video fields | opens the video media type | opens the same browser |
| Setup | enable the module | build a browser, set it to Modal, grant its permission |
If you don't see your browser
- Your browser is not listed under Browser
type. The Entity Browser module is off or no
browser exists yet. Create one at
/admin/config/content/entity_browser. - The dialog shows "Page not found". The browser uses a display other than Modal, and DXPR Builder only opens modal browsers. Set its Display plugin to Modal.
- The dialog shows "Access denied". Your role
lacks the browser's permission. Grant "Access
browser name pages" under People >
Permissions (
/admin/people/permissions).
