Build a platform

Set up a Sites platform in this order, from the code to the first deployment.

  1. Install Sites and trust the hostnames of the sites.
  2. Design the site types: the settings, content and roles each kind of site gets, like a corporate site, a brand site and a regional site.
  3. Plan the hostnames and sub-sites, like www.hydrion.example for a brand and www.hydrion.example/uk for its UK site.
  4. Decide which content belongs to which sites, and how many sites can share it, like a group press release on every brand site.
  5. Set the defaults and the setting layers: per type, per environment, per language.
  6. Create a site and walk through its launch checklist.
  7. Set up roles and permissions, on the platform and per site.
  8. Delegate a site to a site manager, like Hydrion to its brand manager.
  9. Decide what sites may change of shared content (content overrides), and add capabilities like URL aliases, sitemaps, analytics, search or password protection, each from its module.
  10. Deploy: site types travel as configuration, sites live in each environment.

The Quick start builds the brand site Hydrion and its sub-site Hydrion FR from a fresh installation. The example platforms show whole platforms, each with a recipe. Concepts defines the terms.
