Translate and moderate conference content

Translate the compound field on its host content type. Each translation can hold its own session titles, topics and speaker details. Drafts and published versions keep their values on the conference's revisions.

Enable translation

1. Enable Language and Content Translation, then add the languages you need.
2. Open Configuration > Regional and language > Content language and translation. Enable translation for Conference.
3. Edit Conference's Sessions field and select Users may translate this field.
4. Under Translatable elements, select values that should differ by language. Leave a box cleared to share that value across translations.
5. Open a conference, use Translate to add a language, then save and reopen it.

For example, translate the session title while sharing its portrait reference. Changing a shared value also changes it in the other translations. A compound with only one translatable element may have no element-selection list.

Translation is configured on the host field. You do not enable translation separately on each sub-field's own configuration screen.

Share an image and translate its description

For an Image sub-field, leave File shared and translate Alt and Title when the same image serves every language. Selecting File for translation can make all of the compound's element groups translatable. Review the resulting selection before saving.

A Media reference points to a separate media entity. Translating its fields is a separate task from translating the conference's reference.

Work with drafts

Enable Workflows and Content Moderation, then add Conference to your editorial workflow. Edit a conference and save a draft. Its published page keeps the published session values; Latest version shows the draft.

Publishing makes the draft's values public. Reverting a conference revision restores the compound values stored on that revision. A speaker stored in a nested compound has no separate publication state or revision history.

On moderated content, change shared field elements from the original language. Drupal refuses changes to those shared values on a translated draft.

Translate labels and defaults

Enable Configuration Translation. Open the compound under Structure > Compound fields and use its Translate tab. Translate the compound label, sub-field labels and descriptions, and any defaults the field type exposes there.

The compound's description is not translatable. When adding a content translation through Drupal's translation form, Drupal copies the source values. Translated defaults do not replace those copied values.

Before changing a populated compound

Removing a sub-field or reducing its cap can delete values from every language and historical revision. Restoring an older revision will not recover removed values. Follow the removal procedure and deployment guide.
