Layout Builder

frontend_editing_layout_builder makes the action links work on displays managed by core's Layout Builder.

drush en frontend_editing_layout_builder

Dependencies: frontend_editing, layout_builder. Drupal 10 or 11.

Why it is needed

Layout Builder nests fields under its own section and region structure rather than leaving them at the top level of the render array, which is the only place the base module looks.

The sub-module resolves the display's sections the same way Layout Builder itself does, including per-entity overrides, then reports each field it finds back to the base module.

Unlike Display Builder, Layout Builder leaves the field's own render element intact, wrapper and all, and builds it before the render alter runs. The sub-module therefore only has to say where the field ended up. Everything after that is the base module's normal per-field handling.

Configuration

Nothing specific. Configure the bundles, the extra field and the formatter third-party settings as described in Setting it up.

Preview

Because the fields are reported with their wrappers intact, preview of unsaved values works for every field type on a Layout Builder display, not only reference fields.
