Installation¶
Requirements¶
| Requirement | Version |
|---|---|
| Drupal core | ^9.3, ^10 or ^11 |
| drupal/extra_field_plus | ^3.0 |
| drupal/extra_field | ^3.0 |
Install¶
composer require drupal/frontend_editing
drush en frontend_editing
drush cr
Configure it at Administration → Configuration → Frontend Editing
(/admin/config/frontend-editing).
Sub-modules¶
Enable only what you need. Each one is optional.
| Sub-module | Enable when | Also needs |
|---|---|---|
frontend_editing_paragraphs |
Your editable content is built from paragraphs | paragraphs, paragraphs_edit |
frontend_editing_display_builder |
A display is managed by Display Builder | display_builder |
frontend_editing_layout_builder |
A display is managed by core Layout Builder | layout_builder |
drush en frontend_editing_paragraphs
See Paragraphs, Display Builder and Layout Builder.
Optional: live preview¶
composer require drupal/all_entity_preview
drush en preview
With it installed, the sidebar renders unsaved values onto the page as you edit. The paragraphs save queue also uses its storage. Without it, both features are simply absent; nothing fails.
Optional: htmx¶
Drupal 11.3 and later ship htmx in core, and nothing needs installing. On 9.3 to 11.2, install the backport if you want htmx instead of classic AJAX:
composer require drupal/htmx
drush en htmx
Frontend Editing detects whichever is present and uses it. There is no module setting for this. See AJAX transports.
After installing¶
- List the entity types and bundles to edit, under Entity types and bundles.
- Add the
extra_field_frontend_editingextra field to each of those bundles' view displays. - Grant
access frontend editingto the roles that should see the UI.
Setting it up walks through all three.
