Configuration¶
The module has no settings page and no configuration of its own.
Media types¶
The plugin, client_video, handles media items whose source file has one of these MIME types:
video/mp4video/webmvideo/oggvideo/quicktime
That covers core's Video media type, which uses the Video file source, and any other media type whose source field holds such a file. Media Thumbnails picks one plugin per MIME type, so if Media Thumbnails Video is also installed only one of the two is used for these types.
Permissions¶
The module adds no permissions. It uses Media's:
| Action | Needs |
|---|---|
| Send a captured frame | Administer media, or permission to create media of any type, or Edit own or Edit any for any media type. |
| Use the Regenerate Thumbnail tab | Permission to edit the media item, and the item's source file must be a video. |
Sending a frame also needs the session's CSRF token, which the module's script fetches from /session/token.
Media Thumbnails settings¶
Media Thumbnails' settings at Configuration » Media » Media Thumbnails (/admin/config/media/thumbnails) still apply. Its width and background color settings are not used by this plugin: the frame is stored at the video's size, and Drupal's image styles scale it where it is shown.
Its Refresh batch does not change video thumbnails, because no browser is involved. Use the Regenerate Thumbnail tab instead.
Where files go¶
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Frames waiting for their media item | private://media_thumbnails_client_video/{uid}/, or temporary:// without a private file system. Deleted by cron after a day. |
| Thumbnails | {scheme}://client-video-thumbs/, in the same scheme as the video file. A private video gets a private thumbnail. |
