Field widgets
Date only
A date picker without a time, for Timestamp fields and Created fields such as a node's Authored on. Core's only widget for these fields, Datetime Timestamp, always shows a time input beside the date. Where only the day matters, the time input is noise.
The field still stores a full timestamp, so the time of day comes from the widget's Time of day setting:
- Time of submission (the default): a new item uses the time the form is submitted. An existing item keeps the time of day it already has, so changing its date, or saving the form without changing it, does not move its time. Without that, every save would change the time, because a date entered without a time is read as that day at the current time.
- Fixed time: every submitted date is given the configured time, for example midnight. The time is in the timezone of the user who submits the form.
If the date is left blank, the date of form submission is used, with the time of day from the setting.
On the day the clocks go forward, a time that does not exist that day is saved an hour later, so 02:30 becomes 03:30. This applies in both modes. With Time of submission, the item then keeps 03:30 as its time of day if its date is changed again.
