Content moderation & workflows¶
Drupal provides tools to create custom workflows, and Drupal CMS includes an editorial workflow for CMS content. (Workflows are not yet available for Canvas pages.) By combining workflows with roles, you can set up granular control of content management.
Workflow states¶
Drupal CMS includes the following workflow states:
- Draft: Initial state for new content, not visible to site visitors.
- Needs review: Content is ready for editor feedback, but still not visible to site visitors.
- Published: Approved content visible to site visitors.
- Unpublished: Content that was previously published but is no longer.
To modify the existing workflow, or create a new one to apply to some content types, go to Configuration > Workflows (admin/config/workflow/workflows).
Roles and permissions¶
By default, Drupal CMS includes roles for Administrator and Content editor, both of which have permission to publish content. You can create a new role that only has permission to create drafts, or submit content for review, by granting only the relevant permissions under People > Permissions > Content moderation (admin/people/permissions#module-content_moderation).
