Configure site-wide settings

Understanding how to navigate the Drupal CMS configuration options helps you quickly personalize and optimize your site.

Where to find global settings

You can manage global settings in Drupal CMS through the Configuration area. Here's how to reach it:

  • In the administrative toolbar, hover over Configuration and click on the Configuration (admin/config) heading at the top of the menu.

Drupal CMS groups settings on this page by related tasks such as People, Content authoring, System, Development, and User interface. Click into any of these sections to explore further.

You’ll see different configuration options depending on the modules you've enabled on your site. Each module can add its own settings, so your Configuration page might look different from other Drupal CMS installations.

Let’s walk through a couple of common tasks.

Basic site settings

Here you can change the site name you selected during installation, and update the site-wide email address.

  1. Navigate to Configuration > System > Basic site settings (admin/config/system/site-information).
  2. Review the fields for settings such as Site name and Email address.

Here you can also change some page settings, including the home page and some error message pages.

Performance

Performance settings help your Drupal website run faster and more smoothly:

  1. Navigate to Configuration > Development > Performance (admin/config/development/performance).
  2. Review options like caching and aggregation settings. Enable or disable these settings by selecting or clearing checkboxes.

  1. After you make your changes, click Save configuration.

You can follow this general process for many other configuration options.

Finding module-specific settings

Many modules and features include their own dedicated settings pages, which you might find under Configuration, Structure or Reports.

To search the navigation for a specific feature or setting, you can use Alt + D (on Windows) or Option + D (on Mac) to open the navigation assistant and enter a search term to quickly jump to any administration page.

If you still can’t find a particular setting, you can locate the module in the table on the Extend (admin/extend) page and check whether it provides a Configure link.
